Kappa Chi is a Christian club started by Dean Morgan when he directed this Bible Chair during the 1970’s. It was a very successful club during Jerry Klein’s first tenure here at the Bible Chair (1982-1995); and was again during Mark Johnson’s time as Bible Chair director (1995-2003). In fact, the club received AC’s Outstanding Student Organization Award for 1991-1992.
Kappa Chi has a strong presence on the Amarillo College campus once again, averaging around 40 members last semester. Kappa (k) is the first letter in the Greek word for fellowship, and Chi (x) is the first letter in the Greek word for Christ. Thus, Kappa Chi stands for “Fellowship in Christ.”
Membership is open to any AC student who wants to be a member of such a club. There are no dues; but the members are expected to help pay for the parties, retreats and trips that they choose to participate in. Club tshirts are encouraged to purchase and wear also available to purchase and are encouraged
During the regular semesters, we have a free lunch provided by area churches at our regular club meetings and devotionals from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM every Tuesday. This semester we have averaged over 40 students each Tuesday. We have a short devotional while we eat lunch. All seem to really appreciate the time of fellowship and worship. However, since March 20th, our last Tuesday lunch and devo before spring break, the campus is closed due to the COVID 19 virus. For now all of our classes are online only. Hopefully, the campus classes and our Kappa Chi lunches will resume in the fall.
